It only took me about a week to get over my Lost hangover. Last week's episode defined the phrase "mind fuck." I had condensed my notes on Lost down to about eight pages and my theory written down in note form on one page, after last week's episode my notes are now onto page fourteen and growing.
So the island is like hell's gate, keeping all the evil and darkness internal and from escaping. Who saw this coming? I'll admit one of my theories was that everyone was dead and they were in hell, but this is much more complicated. We don't know if they are alive or dead. If they are dead then there has to be some explanation as to why some went home, off the island. I'm not sure that they are dead. I think there is a good possibility that they escaped death and are being given a second chance to fix their fucked up lives. However, it's just not that simple. There are so many different things going on that I'm just left confused. If the island is like a seal, preventing evil from escaping, then what was the Dharma Initiative's purpose of being there and why recruit all those people to come to the island? Were they trying to get to hell? Or were they wanting that suction layer for time travel purposes? Were they all candidates?
Jacob and the man in black (MIB) have this fun little game they play. The MIB says that everyone is corruptible while Jacob disagrees, therefore bringing people to the island to prove the MIB wrong. To play "fair" (we don't know if Jacob is good or evil yet) he does not get involved because he wants the person to figure out right vs. wrong with no help...how sweet. However, he brought the Black Rock over with Richard on board and spent over a hundred years telling Richard what to do...something smells fishy. A crazy, confused Richard tells the losties that everything Jacob has said is a lie. He could be on to something. Or is Jacob good and plays devil's advocate in hopes that someone will make the right decision? Since balance is always a theme on the island and if Jacob is good then his nemesis, MIB, must be bad. Is it the other way around? Or are they both on the same side?
We know that MIB will do anything to get off the island and that means killing and conning. It's funny how we started out fearing the smoke monster and then somehow becoming sympathetic towards him...I mean, he's called a monster. But forgetting who someone is or forgetting who someone was is the key here. Has this happened to anyone else? Ben. Remember when we first met Ben? He was lying, pretending to be someone he wasn't to get a feel for the situation with the losties. He ended up being manipulative and just a horrible person, doing anything he wanted in his favor. Then all of a sudden we find ourselves feeling sorry for him. We've seen the smoke monster examine someone, figuring out if he can use that person to get what he wants. If MIB sees something in that persons history that is worth keeping them around for then he spares his/her life. But with the MIB, he then shape shifts into someone of significance to that person as a con, manipulating thoughts and actions. The smoke monster has killed countless people but yet I joined Team Smokey fairly quick. Now we're being reminded that MIB is not someone to feel sorry for...or is he? We don't know his full story yet. He has told us that he was once a man who had feelings and emotions and lost someone. Now he is (for what we know) immortal, no longer has feeling and is a slave on the island trying to escape and killing anyone who gets in his way. Should we feel sorry for him? Is he working for the devil? Is he just misunderstood or pure evil? Did he make a deal with the devil? We know that Dogen made a deal with Jacob in order for his son to live. The old "make a deal with the devil" storyline could be in effect! So is Jacob the devil? Or is he just some creeper keeper of the gates of hell, deciding who gets in and out?
Sayid is infected and apparently it's too late for him to leave the island. Dogen planed on killing him with a pill. So I guess that's one way we know will kill the smoke monster, poison. Another way to kill old Smokey is with a special dagger. This ancient dagger was given to Sayid from Dogen to kill MIB before he said a word. The MIB had it in his possession before losing it to Jacob (how Dogen got it) and gave it to Richard to kill "the devil" (Jacob) with the same instructions. Does this mean we can assume poison will kill Jacob too? And then Claire, poor Claire. She put her mom in a coma and didn't want her unborn son, but we still love the little hopeless blonde with the cute accent. It's fair to say that Sayid's balance between good and evil within himself was a little heavy on the dark scale, but I'm not so sure that holds truth with Claire. She obviously made a deal somewhere along the way, was it to get her mother out of the coma? Did it have to do with Aaron? Will she be saved because she is Christian's daughter (more on that later)? Is she Jacob's mole? Or is she truly on Team Smokey?
How did Claire become infected? Was it when the Others took her and gave her injections? Was it when Mr. Eko baptized her? Water and evil have a lot in common on the island. Sayid became infected after being submerged in the Temple's spring. He then drowned Dogen in the spring...will he also resurrect with the infection or is he just dead because of some protection from Jacob? Jacob repeatedly pushed Richard's head in and out of the ocean and then gave him a "gift" of living forever. Mr. Eko baptized Claire and Aaron in the ocean after all the speculation behind Aaron being in danger. No matter what, it's safe to assume that if Claire is infected then so is Aaron. So now we have someone who is infected and not on the island. What does this mean? Maybe because he isn't on the island he won't be affected? That might explain why Claire warned Kate in her dream not to bring Aaron back to the island.
The Shepard men all have some connection with the island. This can't be a coincidence. Let's start with the most obvious Shepard, Jack. Ok, so we all know how Jack got on the island (plane crash, dummy) and then he saw his father, Christian, on the island and he wasn't the only one who saw him. We also know that Jack's grandfather (Christian's father) was leaving to go to the island. Aaron (who is actually Christian's grandson) was born on the island...and babies aren't supposed to be born on the island (probably because the devil hates adorable babies or something like that) and he has also escaped death multiple times. So what it is with these Shepard men and the island? Are they all decedents of some sort? Do they inherit a role on the island or were they all just candidates?
Oh and as for those candidates, they're all about to die. MIB told Jacob that he would kill him to get off the island (it being the only way). But Jacob throws in a zing saying that someone will replace him (a candidate) and the MIB simply replies that he will kill them too. So the numbers might not even matter anyone because they're all going to be killed...and I'm guessing sooner than later. It was swell while it lasted!
And here's something that we might have forgotten after the big "OMFG R U SERIOUS??? LOLZ" moment...Whidmore and his men are on the island. Why the fuck does Whidmore want to be on this hellhole(literally)? Charles Whidmore was exiled from the island by Ben and then spent years trying to find the island again. What did the island offer him? What are the rules that Whidmore and Ben have? Are they similar to the rules between Jacob and MIB?
And finally, some random tid bits and questions:
+Ilana made a deal with Jacob and she is protecting the candidates (like Dogen), what did she bargain? Her life? Someone else? Why was she so badly injured?
+How will David (Jack's son) fit into the pattern of the Shepard men and the island? Who is his mother?
+Richard's wife, Isabella, appeared to him on the island. She warned him that the devil was coming and then the smoke monster swallowed her whole. So who was Isabella and who was the smoke monster? Can Jacob turn into a smoke monster too?
+The lighthouse. Remember the lighthouse? Jack had a temper tantrum and smashed the mirrors. We know the mirrors showed a certain location once turned to the right setting (Jack saw his childhood house) and we also know that using a mirror and the sun was a way the Others communicated with one another from long distances on the island. Now that those mirrors are broken at the lighthouse, what does that affect? There are Others off the island, Eloise Hawkings, Daniel's mother, for one...who had some sort of contraption to find/communicate with the island. Will no one be able to find the island anymore?
+Who will win the candidacy? Will anybody be left alive after the MIB has his way? Once a replacement is chosen for Jacob can he change the rules of letting the MIB go? If MIB goes, does he need a replacement?
+Is the flash sideways a reward in MIB and Jacob's game? Losers go to hell or become infected winners get a do-over in life? Sounds...fair (gulp).
+Back to the water...what is making them infected in the water? We know that the island is keeping the evil in, but what about the water? Jacob and Eko used the ocean while Sayid and Dogen used the spring. Does this matter? Is the ocean good water and the spring bubbling it's way to the islands surface straight from hell? Remember that at one point that had to swim under fresh water (the spring) to get inside. Also the underwater station in the ocean that Charlie drowned in. But there is something else we have to remember, MIB gave Richard water to drink while he was still chained to the Black Rock. And rain seems to foreshadow danger, which could just be a clue, but it holds true to this water theory.
+Richard wants to switch sides. I'm excited to see this transformation. NERD ALERT!!
Satisfying all your creepy and groovy needs while I try to fit into normal society by learning everything vegan and how to a sew.

Lost Season 6: Fuck Balance
I really hope next weeks episode of Lost will lay off the destiny theme and move on, we get it. I'm just going to get right into it and throw my questions and comments out there...
First of all, when is it? What year are we in? I've been trying to figure it and I'm just confused.
Richard was kept in a Russo-like trap. I was waiting for Claire to come out! So again, WHERE THE FUCK IS CLAIRE?
Um...the creepy kid. Has to be Jacob, but why is he a kid? Is that a clue for what year we are in? Or can Sawyer just see him because he is a candidate? (It reminds me of what Shannon was seeing Walt, is there any connection?)
Who is this Ilana chick? I want more from her background. How does she know so much about the island and those on it? She said that "Locke" was "recruiting", what exactly is he recruiting for? There are two stories going on here. Richard tells Sawyer that the man inside Locke's body wants to kill everyone on the island and the man inside Locke tells Sawyer a sob story about being stuck in Locke's body and wants to go home...and bring Sawyer home too. He also tells him that Sawyer's "so close"...close to what? Ilana also says that he is stuck in Locke's body, so I guess that part is true. Is the only way for him to go home is to kill people? Like a sacrifice? By the end of the episode we find out more meaning to the word "candidate", there are obviously a few candidates, so do they all get to survive? Or does only one candidate get to live, something like he needs one person to stay on the island? There has been no doubt some talk about balance on the island. But then he told Sawyer that the island didn't need protecting and that they should both go home. And he did take one of the stones of the scale and throw it into the ocean...
Locke has bad luck in the alt world at home. His lift on his van broke, he fell out of his chair, the sprinkler system went off when he fell and he got fired. Of course when we think of bad luck Hurley pops in the mind and then there he was, Hugo Reyes, to save John Locke. Quite the role reversal, but I guess that only makes sense in a bizarro world. So Hurley tells Locke that he will get him a new job and that everything will work out...BORING! I waited to see who was going to be working at the temp agency that Hugo sent Locke to and sure enough Rose entered...still with cancer. I found that interesting and somewhat mean and comforting all at once. Rose is the same on or off the island. Could it be wisdom? She found life's meaning early on? Is the cancer her constant?
More on Locke...
There was a quick mention of his father. In this alternative world he has a good relationship with his father. I'm confused. How much of the past is different for these doppelgangers?
I kept waiting for Walt to appear since the episode was so Locke heavy. At first I thought he was the delivery guy at the door returning Locke's lost luggage and then I thought he was the kid Locke grabbed at the school. Where are you Walt? Tell us what you know!!!
Speaking of school, I found it funny that Ben teaches history at the school and that Locke was a substitute. How appropriate! I didn't know that the episode was titled "Substitute" until after, so I got excited when I made the connection between Locke being nothing but a substitute (or "candidate")...and then I saw the episode title and my spirits were broken.
But now onto the most important story of last night's episode! The names! Oh, the names! And the numbers! THE MOTHER FUCKING NUMBERS! Ok, so we have 23-Shepard, 8-Reyes, 16-Jarrah, 42-Kwan (Kim or Jin? I'm thinking Jin because she was on the flight back to the island), 4-Locke, 15-Ford. Are the numbers Jacobs preference for the candidate position? They can't be the order in which he met them because he met Sawyer as a child. So what do the numbers fucking mean??? TEASE!!! Oh I can't wait to find out more about these candidates etched into the walls! There were so many names! How creepy!
And finally, who is inside Locke? I mean, seriously. Who is that man? Where did he come from? When did he come from? How did he get stuck? Can he be trusted?
I want, nay, NEED answers.

Lost: Season Four
Well season four has been a doozy! I think I forgot everything I wanted to comment on when the island disappeared. The fucking island moved! WTF????!?!?!?!?!!
I hate that Jack and Kate got together after they left the island. I can't stand him and I think he would be a horrible father. So I'm glad that he became an unshaven, pill popping retard.
I'm sad that John dies. And I'm curious to find out how.
I feel bad for Hurley. Anytime the poor guy gets a break something bad happens. Wins the lotto, has bad luck. Get's rescued, ends up going insane. Poor Hurley.
I knew something was going on with Jack's (and Claire's) father! How did he become this person?!
I understand why everyone has to lie about the island, but it's starting to stress me out.
What did Sawyer whisper to Kate?
Why is John's name changed?
Fucking love Sun right now. She's out to get her revenge. I wish Tarantino directed an episode where she goes on a killing rampage.
So time is a factor on the island. Obviously, Desmond has been a victim to this...who else has? It's a little confusing to me though. I can't figure out if time slows down or speeds up on the island. Or is it inconsistent? Like a little bit of both? When the doctor washed up on shore and he wasn't dead yet was a major clue, but I guess I'm still confused. The crew said the doctor wasn't dead. So either the boat is behind time than the island or the island is in the future.
Are they all dead like Hurley and Charlie say so? That would be crazy!
This girl, from the boat, what is her story? She's been to the island before and wants to stay there. She says she might have been born on the island, who are her parents?
Who is Kate with after Jack?
Why did Claire stay on the island with her dad and leave her baby? Charlie died to get Claire and Aaron off the island and Claire stays? That's pretty fucked up, Claire. Leave your daddy issues on the island and go be a mom. What did he tell her?
I hope Jack gets them all back to the island. Watching all this Lost has made me want to leave civilization and move to an island. I would totally love living there. I love adventure and I've never been afraid of getting my hands dirty. But anyways, the island wants them all to come back. I need to know more about that.
HOW THE FUCK DID THE ISLAND MOVE?! I can't get over it!
My brother told me that season five is "a total mind fuck." So I'm about to get fucked...mentally. Season five here I come!!!

Lost: Season Three
So I guess they do make it off the island after all! I've been wondering all this time if they are ever going to actually make it off the island. It seems like most people have better lives on the island than they would off the island and the flash forward to the future to where Jack (even more annoying) begs Kate to go back seems to prove it.
I can't believe Charlie died! So sad.
Where the hell are Michael and Walt? No one seems to even be talking about them.
I like that the "others" have their own little civilization. I think it's creepy and mysterious. I don't understand Ben's deal though. He says that people can go home but he won't let them. What's going on with that? Is this some sort of cult?
Who is this Nadia? What's going to happen now that Jack called in to be supposedly rescued? They obviously aren't going to be rescued...
What is the deal with Jack's father? He seems to be the biggest asshole in the world and by the looks of it so far...the cause of every body's problem on the island.
And speaking of fathers...who would have guessed that John's father was the man Sawyer had been looking for???
I'm still not exactly sure about Juliette. Can she really be trusted?
Hmmm....the plot seems to always be thickening with this show. I'm totally hooked, obviously, since I've been flying through the series. So, off to season four!
And please, no spoilers :)

Lost: Season Two
I finished season two of Lost this afternoon. First of all...I knew that island was a fucking magnet! It's the only thing that made any sense on that island. Second of all, I've been dreaming of Lost the past couple of night. I'm sure that isn't healthy, but I'm not exactly complaining either.
So I still feel the same about the characters...
I can't stand Michael and Jack. Kate is slowly growing on me. As for new characters, the survivors from the tail of the plane, I liked all of them besides for Anna Lucia. I really liked "Libby" or "Elizabeth"...whatever her name is. I want to know more of her story, like why she was in a nut house.
I'm loving the way all the characters were connected before the crash. I think that holds some truth to the real world, somebody always knows somebody and that phrase gets thrown around all the time..."it's a small world."
I don't like that Jin is pregnant. How many babies are we going to have on this island?
What did John see on the wall when the door closed on his leg? Those hieroglyphics...what do they mean?
Charlie is stupid for getting rid of those drugs. John should have stopped him.
How many hatches are on the island? Why were the notebooks being sent to a field? Didn't those scientists think that one day someone might leave the hatch the explore the island and come across them? Dumb.
Where the hell did the statue come from and why does it have only four toes...more importantly, where is the rest of it? Are the "others" another species? Do they only have four toes? How did they get to the island? So many questions!!!
Hurley made a comment about time. There are stories about the Bermuda Triangle and time, I wonder if that has anything to do with this island?
I hope Michael gets eaten by a shark and Walt comes back.
I've noticed that anytime someone becomes romantically involved on the island (that were not before the crash) one person ends up dying. So I'm starting a list of people I want to see have relations in hopes that one will die...starting with Jack.
I feel bad for Desmond and Pen (is that her name?). She found him and he won't be there (I'm assuming)...she'll just find a really sad story...about 50 sad stories actually.
Again, I feel like I'm forgetting so much, but onward to season three!!!!

Lost: Season One
I just finished watching the first season of Lost. As I've been telling people that I'm trying to watch seasons 1-5 of Lost before the premiere, everyone is eager to tell me something. I think only one is a real spoiler. I figured that at the end of every season I'll list what Lost fans have told me along the way, share any comments and questions I have about the previous season...starting with which characters I dislike and then which characters are my favorite. So, here we go:
What I've learned from friends:
1. Whenever it rains, something bad is supposed to happen.
2. After season three things can get a little out of control and sometimes ridiculous.
3. A man comes along that might have all the answers but he gets run over by a bus.
(Oh and I already knew that there are "others" on the islands. No one told me...I just don't live in a hole.)
Comments and questions about season one:
1. I'm starting to dislike many characters. Jack being the first. He irritates me on so many levels. He overreacts, he's bossy (leadership and bossy are different), he doesn't cooperate and he needs to get off his high horse. Kate is starting to annoy me too...I get it, you run and you killed the man you loved. Michael needs to calm his ass down and become a better example for his son.
2. My favorite characters are John, Sun, Sayid and Charlie.
3. I have mixed feelings on this French woman. What was with the "Beyond the Sea" written with math equations? Why is she still on the island after sixteen years? She seems intelligent, strong and knows so much about the island. I don't think she's as crazy as the rest believe.
4. So this "monster" is a security system? It was obviously not a real monster because it doesn't sound organic, it sounds...mechanical. Maybe they shouldn't be wondering what the monster looks like or what it does, but what it's protecting. Also, how does it know when to "attack"?
5. It was probably better off that Boone died. That whole weird semi-incest thing probably would have been a big burden for him on and off the island. Plus he had angry eyebrow...nobody likes that.
6. That raft was a bad idea. I think it's better to try and communicate using the resources on the islands. Sayid seems to be able to make anything work, might as well let him make a new radio. There are parts all over the island! That itty bitty raft just seems stupid. Especially endangering the welfare of Walt. Michael and him should have stayed put.
7. I kinda hope everyone on the island becomes heroin addicts.
8. When will Jack get the heroin to use for medicinal purposes? It only makes sense, it will take care of pain when someone is hurt.
9. Why did Ethan want Claire so bad? I'm assuming he's part of the "others", but why did they take her? Why did they want her back so badly? What does Danielle have to do with the "others" or was her trying to take Claire while she was pregnant a coincidence?
10. WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP CRASHING ON THAT ISLAND?! Is there some sort of magnet?
11. What's under the island?
12. I want to know more about the cursed numbers. I like that part of the story.
13. Where is that woman's husband? Or is she just in some serious denial?
14. I'm excited to hear the "others" stories.
15. I knew when Danielle said that the "others" were going to take "the boy" that it was Walt and not the baby. Walt has some sort of ability. He seems to know what's good and bad and what might happen. The baby has done nothing but cry. DUH. But I don't think Danielle knew that Walt was on the island. But it would appear that the "others" knew he was there and where to find him...even off the island.
16. I don't think Walt is going to be hurt because he's too special. But I do wonder how Michael, Jin and Sawyer are going to get to shore. I know they won't be rescued. There's probably just enough of the raft left to get back to shore or maybe whatever is under the island will pull them back. Guess I'll have to start season two to find out...
I know I had more to say but I can't remember everything and I don't want to bore to to death...just waste your time and make you feel numb. Oh television, you're the best drug there is.
Oh and as always, please no spoilers! Thanks :)

Welcome to Lost
So I started the series of Lost, as promised on December 2nd, and I'm watching as many episodes as I can before the final series premieres in January. I didn't understand completely the obsession with Lost until the pilot ended. I admit that I got hooked almost immediately. I'm enjoying most of the characters. The brother and sister annoy me a little, so I'm hoping that they become a little less useless and annoying soon. I like the flashbacks used to get to know the characters and their story...I'm a huge flashback fan.
I have many, many questions...
Polar bear? Really??
What is that "monster" in the jungle?
When will I meet the blurry people in the background of every beach shot?
What was up with that French chick?
Is this Island in a Bermuda Triangle of sorts?
Why was Kate arrested?
Why did Charlie give up his drugs so easily and quickly? Seemed unreal.
Please NO SPOILERS!
These are just thoughts or hypothetical questions I have about the show. I don't want to know the answers to them. So please don't tell me. :)
My brother is bringing over the Lost seasons to me on DVD to borrow...to speed things along. I'm too impatient right now to depend on Netflix. I'm about half way through the first season. I'm looking forward to catching up and getting completely lost in Lost.....yeah....sorry for that...the pun was intended.

Lost for Lost and Dreamy Saxaphones
GOAL: Watch all previous seasons of Lost before February 2, 2010
I'm going to try and blog my thoughts or questions as much as possible while watching the series. I'm not looking for any spoilers. I just want to watch years worth of Lost in a little over six weeks. In the words of Glenn Frey...THE HEAT IS ON!
