Yesterday I experienced my first Dyngus Day at Buffalo Central Terminal and The Adam Mickiewicz Library with my family and my love. Click on the links for more info on Dyngus Day and the history behind the two places we visited. But in a nutshell, think of Dyngus Day in Buffalo like a Polish St. Patrick's Day celebration. It's unreal! I hadn't been in either place before but I was so excited about going into the terminal! I wish there weren't so many cops around so we could sneak off and explore the rest of the terminal but just being in the main area of the building, even though it is completely run down, was breathtaking. Yes, even with non stop polka music from Those Idiots. I've had Polka Face in my head all day.
My mom found a picture of me and the boy on buffalo.com and I found us in the background of a buffalo news video too! Unfortunately, I can't find any footage of me sticking out my tongue in a lewd fashion behind my mom as she got interviewed from another news channel. Speaking of, more bad news: I forgot my camera. But thank goodness for cellphones! I was able to snap a few (crappy) photos inside Buffalo Central Terminal.
Satisfying all your creepy and groovy needs while I try to fit into normal society by learning everything vegan and how to a sew.

Update To My Crazy Life
Well I put my notice in at work last Thursday and that night before I went to bed I received an email stating that the following day would be my last. It was bittersweet. I was glad to leave but nervous about money, mainly because I have none. Then my wheels started turning. Maybe they would give me at least a weeks pay for the sudden notice? Nope. Not one penny more and they actually had me stay later than I was supposed to! Phew...glad that's over. On top of the stress of money, I found out that my mom is going to be renting her house to my boyfriend and I and a friend of ours. Sweet! Wait, we have no money...shit. Time to get some! As if the stress isn't enough right now, I've decided to start two businesses. I know, I'm crazy. More on that as more becomes finalized, but for now here's a look into my first three days of freedom:
Day One of my new life was extremely lazy. It's too embarrassing to even think about.
Day Two started with a thorough car cleaning in temperatures just peaking thirty degrees with The Dead Weather blaring out of my dad's garage. After that I sorted out pennies from the rest of my almost twenty bucks worth of change and then decided to re-alphabetize my records and listen to a few.
Day Three was a little more social. After dropping my boyfriend off at work, I picked up our soon to be roommate and we went over to check out my mom's house which lead to my mom taking us our to lunch. The menu had vegetarian options! The food was good but the decor was country diarrhea, hard to digest. After we all went our separate ways I stopped in a Verizon only to waste my time. They really should change the name to Verjizzon. I picked up my boyfriend, he made a tasty vegan pizza and I made a vegan texas cake. I meant to take pictures but we were hungry. Sorry.
I'm definitely looking forward to spend more time learning how to cook and bake vegan, sewing too. Ad of course I'll have more time to spend with my awesome boyfriend and friends. Life may be a little tough right now, but I'm doing OK. I'm happy and I can't wait for the future.

Simple Blog Change on Music Monday
I had to change my blog again. I know, I know. I'll keep this one for a while. The template I used to help build and customize ended up being way too much work. Did I mention that the entire thing was in Spanish? I know basic Spanish, enough to translate most of the code, but there was still so much HTML Spanish that I just don't have to the time to decode right now. So I went for just a simple approach. I should be spending time writing, not deciphering Spanish nerd code.
Oh and I'm so fucking stoked for this Friday! Vampire Weekend is coming to town! I've been obsessed with this band since a friend gave me a copy of their first album a while back. Here's a mix of some of their tunes, familiarize and become a fan!

Vampire Raves
Ok, so this entry has nothing to do with vampires waving around glow sticks and partying all night long. Sorry to disappoint! I've been obsessed with Vampire Weekend's new album Contra and The Raveonette's In and Out of Control. I highly recommend both these solid albums. I'm not going to say too much cause I'd rather you listen to the music then read this blog about vampires not taking animal tranquilizers and sweating to the beat. Give and listen and then get your hands on them!

Don't Go Around Breaking Young Girls Hearts
I hope to meet the little guy in the middle some day. *sigh*
Collections Vol. One
With the new hoarders obsession in this country, I feel it only necessary to write about what I collect. I'm in no way a hoarder. Sure, I save things that can be reused instead of throwing them out. I have shoe boxes that I keep all my craft supplies in, I save old jars or candle holders to use for organizing my desk (and I've been meaning to get into making my own candles to reuse some of the jars), I save postcards and greeting cards for craft purposes and I save plastic bottle for making homemade bongs. But I don't collect those things, I recycle what I don't need. But there are some things that I do keep even if they don't work, five things really. I've decided to do a small series of blogs on what I collect. My collections are actually in early stages at the moment. I tend do collect in phases anyways. I'll collect something for years, get sick of the clutter and get rid of everything. I've collected baseball and hockey cards, Super Bowl coins, Pez dispensers, movies and seashells among other things.
I figured the best way to work this series is to start to explain the first of the five collections and then write about the others consecutively. So enough blabber! On to the first collection piece!
If you know me at all you know that one of my biggest passions is music, so it's no surprise that I wanted to start collecting music. There are so many ways of listening to music but only one seems "romantic"...vinyl records. Listening to a vinyl record is personal, you can see how the music is being delivered to your ears and that makes the music special. Watching a needle fit perfectly in the grooves as the record spins is enough to make my heart melt. To me, it's the most personal listening experience. Quality of sound may not be the best, but I tend to like flaws so it works for me.
I started collecting vinyl about three years ago now. I don't have an abundance of vinyl, but my collection has certainly grown. I only go searching for records once in a blue moon when I feel like I need a pick me up or I'm in the mood for a thrift store adventure. I now own two record players and probably about thirty records. I started out only wanting vintage vinyl records. I felt that the only way to listen to older music was through a needle and turntable. It wasn't until recently when a friend saw my collection and wanted to start collecting himself that I started collecting new music on vinyl. I thought it was interesting that he wanted new music on vinyl, the thought had never even occurred to me. Then him and his girlfriend invited me over for a night of beers, pot and jeopardy and we listened to some more recent albums on his new record player and I was sold. I needed to start giving new music the chance to dance on my turntable. The cool bonus about new music on vinyl is that the artwork is usually pretty fantastic and most of the newer albums come with a digital download code or a CD so you can put the record on your computer and mp3 player.
Some of the vinyl I have is scratched or ruined in some way, but I'm hoping one day to be able to afford a real cleaning machine that sucks all the dirt and grossness out of the records grooves. My birthday is coming up so if anybody is looking to get me something, one of those would complete me. ;)

Hobo Clown & Forest
I never heard of Allison Schulnik until last night when a friend told me about a claymation music video for the band Grizzly Bear. I just checked out the video (or short) tonight and not only is the song cool, but the visual is even better. I remember liking the song but I can't tell you what it sounded like because I was too engrossed in the video.
Forest
I look forward to what Schulnick does in the future, after watching "Forest" I'm a new fan. I swoon over the eyes.

Cause Who Doesn't Love A Mixtape?
I usually spend majority of my time listening to music and this weekend has been no exception. Over the past 36 hours I have been listening to music for about 13 of those hours, the rest has been me sleeping or working. I like so much music that I usually listen in shifts. I'll listen to one band for a while and then switch to another, coming back to old and familiar stuff and of course checking out what's new.
So here's what I've been listening to lately:
Muse - Absolution
Beck - Odelay
Simon & Garfunkel - The Graduate Soundtrack
Bob Dylan - Greatest Hits
Muse - The Resistance
The Great Society with Grace Slick - Conspicuous Only In Its Absence
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Jay-Z - The Blueprint 3
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
(500) Days of Summer Soundtrack
Im ashamed to list this last one. I'm not on the Twilight wagon, but the soundtrack to New Moon is pretty rad. *blushing*
Oh and here's a little mixtape of songs from the albums above. Don't say I never gave you anything!

Lost for Lost and Dreamy Saxaphones
GOAL: Watch all previous seasons of Lost before February 2, 2010
I'm going to try and blog my thoughts or questions as much as possible while watching the series. I'm not looking for any spoilers. I just want to watch years worth of Lost in a little over six weeks. In the words of Glenn Frey...THE HEAT IS ON!

Zooey Deschanel, Will You Marry Me?
As if I thought I couldn't fall in love more with Zooey Deschanel, I found out a few weeks ago that she has a band and I am totally swooning over it...non stop. The name? She & Him. The album? Volume One. I fall asleep with the songs in my head, I wake up singing a tune, I listen to it on the way to work, listen at work and listen on the way home from work. If you have a passion for music, I highly recommend getting this album. The music is old fashioned and just so beautiful. I first heard Deschanel's voice when she sang some Christmas tunes in the holiday comedy Elf. Her voice reminded me of old music and I became a huge fan of hers. So when I came across her band I almost peed my pants in excitement. The album couldn't download fast enough! There are a few remakes on the album that are just fantastic, including a Beatles's number! No matter how busy you are this weekend, get the album! Click on the link to check out the band's site and then please proceed to buy the album. Oh, and Zooey is engaged...but sadly, not to me.

April Smith, I Find You Simply Delicious
About a week or so ago I caught the end of a song that caught my attention. I have the song ID application on my phone so I quickly fumbled to try and figure out who was singing. Song ID could not identify the artist or song, but I caught the DJ say the details right before I pulled into my driveway. I was listening to April Smith and the Great Picture Show and the song was "wow and flutter". I jotted down the info and haven't checked Ms. Smith out until a few minutes ago. I'm in love. I checked out her myspace page, which you should do too! Or you can visit her website. I plan on going out within the next hour or so and grabbing her album. You can buy it on itunes, her website or even on her myspace page, but I like having an actual hard copy. Something just seems better about owning an actual disc. She says she sounds like "The Beatles fronted by the Andrews Sisters" and if that isn't worth checking out, then I don't know what is. I'm just glad that I came across her name and tunes.
But wait. She's so kick ass that she wants to make a new album, but wants the freedom of being able to be herself on the record. So instead of having a label, she wants her fans to support her. She's on kickstarter, a way for good people to do something good. Check out her video on kickstarter, which is informational and quite amusing. It might make you fall in love with her even more...worked for me! You can find out more on her website as well.
And I'll just say "you're welcome" now ;)

Sir Paul McCartney
If only I was born a couple decades earlier I would be married to Paul McCartney. Good Morning America had a segment on the love of my life this morning. Paul's new solo album is coming out and is said to be his best solo work. It's said to be a personal album. GMA hinted toward references about his late, and lovely, wife Linda. I don't know much about the album besides what was reported this morning, which wasn't much, but I am definitely going to purchase and listen intently. Natalie Portman stars in his music video for his first single off the highly anticipated album. I'm so excited for Paul after all he has been through this year, he needs something positive in his life. Why not a kick ass album? I got your back, Paul.
